Game write up:

A cloudy drizzle filled afternoon was the setting at Bobby Thompson Field as the Giants played host to the Devils in the first meeting of the teams this season.

The first inning was runless from both teams with tight defenses - and excellent pitching from Hsinyen Lao of the Devils who would total up 10 strikeouts today.

The second inning saw the Devils open up the scoring and go 2 runs ahead before the Giants could shut them down. The bottom of the 2nd would again be all about the Devils pitching as 2 strikeouts and a ground out to Hsinyen would mean the Giants went out 1, 2, 3 again. Another 2 runs from the Devils and the Giants are 4-0 down in the middle of the 3rd.

The first Giants hit would come from Gareth Alexander who was playing for the Giants today. Gareth would go on to steal 2nd before Paul Convoy would strikeout swinging at the plate. Another hit came from another Cannon Thomas Gonzalez and this hit would see Gareth out at 3rd coming off the base. Thomas would steal 2nd and 3rd in a great attempt at getting the runs flowing but Rafa Perez would hit the ball to Tristam Gibbons at 3rd base who would throw to Bret Griffin at first to end the inning.

The 4th inning would be filled with controversy after Giants manager Paul Convoy was informed by Umpire Thomas Haywood that Catcher Kyle Huffey was on a final warning for mouthing off. The Manager warned his catcher and then play resumed. As the Devils relentless offence would mark up another two runs before the Giants could retire the Devils, the pressure was piled on even further in the bottom of the 4th as Huffey was ejected from the game after striking out. The Giants would call on another Cannon to fill the gap in the form of Nicola Bruni. Georges Necer would bat in Juan Carlos for 1 Giants run but the score was 6-1 going into the 5th.

The Giants defence would knuckle down over the next 3 innings and score 1 run in the 6th and 7th scored by Thomas Gonzalez and Oliver Warne. With the score 6-3 entering the 8th the Giants would make things difficult for themselves by allowing 2 runs to score on an error before Gibbons would drive in Griffin on a ground rule double into Left field. Staunt pitching from Perez would keep the score at that but with only 1 hit from Perez in the 8th and 1 from Necer in the 9th the Giants would lose their 2nd consecutive game of the season.

A special thanks to Thomas, Gareth and Nicola who stepped in to help us out with our depleted squad through injury, family and work commitments (and unruly players)
